Reenactment Event at Beamish Museum
on 12th July 2025.
Event poster by Nathaniel Tegg
A
belated post about our main Civil Defence display from this year.
Organised by Nathaniel Tegg, a very enthusiastic researcher on subjects
related to the CDC. Our thanks go to him for setting this first event in the highly appropriate 1950s town at the Beamish Museum, County Durham.
The traditional group photo.
We occupied the town's bowling pavilion with our display of Civil Defence Corps and National Hospital Service Reserve items, below are the handful of photos I managed to get on a very busy day.
Warden section display.
Training exercise map plot of a strike on Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Display of CDC Rescue section kit.
A Red Cross nurse of the National Hospital Service Reserve.
(parts of the uniform have been generously donated to us by John Rees)
Posing in front of Nathaniel's CDC ambulance which he has converted from an original 1950s vehicle.
I am happy to say that this one day trial event was a success and consequentially, there will be a two-day Cold War Civil Defence event in the 1950s town at Beamish on 21st/22nd March 2026.
