Civil Defence history & re-enactment websites:

 For ex-members and those interested in the work of the CDC.  Has a free downloadable booklet on the history of UK Civil Defence from 1938 to 1968

For those with an interest in UK Civil Defence Corps history 1948-68, many of our members served in the CDC.



The historical records part of the Royal Voluntary Service, previously known as the Women’s Voluntary Service & the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service.

 The Casualties Union provided realistic casualties for many CDC training exercises. They still help train the emergency services today.

Current Civil Defence Organisations:

When the UK CDC was disbanded in 1968, the Isle of Man kept theirs going. It still operates today forming an important part of the emergency services on the island..

The Irish Civil Defence was set up in 1951 . with a similar structure to the UK CDC  It still exists and supports the frontline emergency services.

A Voluntary Emergency Support Organisation based across the UK.
